If you're into serious listening, you should know Chord Electronics, an audiophile centric brand that produced top notch digital to analog converters and amplifier for headphones and speakers.
|The Chord Mojo|
The good news is they're now here in the Philippines and recently introduced the powerful yet portable Chord Mojo and the upcoming top of the line Chord Dave in the country.
The Chord Mojo as I said earlier is a smaller than your smartphone DAC / AMP for your headphones that can run headphones up to 600 ohms. It also brings studio quality sound coming from your music player (PC, Smartphone, Dedicated DAP) by bypassing their built in DAC.
The body of the Mojo is made from precision machined aluminum, comes with 3 digital inputs that includes (USB, Coaxial and Optical), two 3.5 mm female ports and can play 32 KHz to 768 KHz up to DSD 512 lossless audio files.
It's currently one of the cleanest sounding portable DAC / AMP I ever tried and on my first impressions it's worth the asking price of 30,990 Pesos. Of course other than that you'll need high quality headphones as well to make it really shine.
The upcoming Chord Dave on the other hand is currently their most advanced DAC today that features a digital pre amplifier and a headphone amp. According to Chord Electronics, they're using an Field Programmable Gate Array) in its high-end DACS and use its own software to do all the number crunching.
It also comes with outputs that includes XLR, standard RCA, advanced headphone out, USB Type B, two and four coaxial digital sockets. Chord Dave can also process full high res audio support that includes any lossless audio that includes DSD and DXF files up to 768 KHz.
All of those truly high end functions of the Dave comes with a premium, it's priced at 570K Pesos only. There's no word about the availability yet though. We'll keep you guys posted.
Chord products are available at JBL stores, Egghead Audiohub and A.Refinery.
