Smart LTE Reached 400 Mbps Speed With Galaxy S8 / S8+ In Boracay

Smart together with Huawei Technologies Philippines has reached speeds of 400 Mbps using test software on Samsung's Galaxy S8 and S8+ in Boracay Island.

Initial tests have also achieved promising speeds 400 to 500 Mbps via 4x4 Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MIMO) and 256 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) technology on the company's live and loaded network in Boracay.

This is just a preview of what can be achieved using the network that Smart is currently rolling-out and continuously improving throughout the country, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT and Smart Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering.

In case you missed it, LTE-A has a capability called "Carrier Aggregation" (CA), which allows it to combine two or more radio frequency bands in order to deliver bigger bandwidth and much faster data speeds to mobile users. According to Smart, 4CC aggregation features the combination of four separate spectrum blocks to deliver much greater capacity and speeds. 

Even for those who are using other LTE handsets, our network already delivers a better level of service, Tamayo added.

Smart has been rolling out LTE and LTE-Advanced network upgrades in the country’s major urban hubs like Metro Manila, Rizal, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao recently.

We are asking for people’s patience and understanding as we are upgrading our network facilities. We assure you that we are taking steps to minimize the impact of these activities on our subscribers. In the end, our commitment to all our subscribers is that they will enjoy progressively better mobile data services in the next few months, particularly for those using LTE devices, said Tamayo.
