Students from there have a hard time researching for their projects and homework. They need to trek for hours just to reach the nearest computer shop. WIth 25.4 million learners in the country, providing quality education, whenever and wherever, remains one of the main focuses of the government.

That is why the Province of Cabanatuan made efforts and allocated a substantial amount of their funds to provide quality education to their citizens. Their efforts bore fruit when Microsoft chose Cabanatuan as one of the home of their EGG Command Center.

The Command Center is also designed as a disaster risk and recovery hub. It is designed to be sustainable and efficient by having its own medical and fire equipment so that it can withstand national disasters. Power is also not a problem since it has solar panels that helps the Command Center produce its own power. It also has an engine that can collect rain water which can be used to irrigate the land around it or be filtered to be drinkable water.

As of now, two public schools will be connected to Cabanatuan's Command Center. In the future, it will be possible to connect more schools and even EGG classrooms as well. This is just the start of this revolutionary work by Microsoft.

The TV White Space is the one to thank for the possibility to connect to these off grid areas. This method utilizes the unused VHF and UHF channels to provide broadband access via today's WiFi spectrum. It is more ideal to use TV White Space because of its excellent range and obstacle penetration capabilities.

Microsoft's Managing Director in the Philippines Betrand Launay states Microsoft's firm commitment in making a difference in digital education:

We can see how technology affects how we live, work and interact with everybody. Now, we can see how technology can engage every student even though they live in an unconnected area.

He also added:

Launching the EGG Command Center in Cabanatuan, the Gateway to the North, is a great start to bringing quality education to every single Filipino wherever they are located.

Innovations such as this will make providing quality education in off grid areas easier and possible. Technology these days can make education more fun and efficient.
