The event was held on August 30th at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig with official retail shops for popular brands such as Coca-Cola, OPPO and Sandisk among others. These brands looks to learn how to bolster their presence in eCommerce by using tools and service from Shopee and Facebook.

Macy Castillo, Shpoee's Head of Commercial Business, believes that although the leading brands have clinched their presence in the traditional sense, they still have to improve utilizing online tools and services. She stated:

Our Official Shops are already industry leaders that have captured traditional markets, but are now looking to expand their reach online. By selling on Shopee, they have access to our user-friendly platform, logistical expertise, and also the opportunity to tap into our fast-growing customer base - all of which can help take their businesses to the next level

Furthermore, she added:

The results for Official Shops have so far been very heartening, with many of them managing to reach millions of new customers using our integrated business management tools. To further help these retailers succeed in the global marketplace, we want to help them better understand the marketing tools that they can use to promote their shops and products - one of which is via Facebook, a platform that our Filipino users are already very familiar and adept with.

During the hour long session, Shopee and Facebook shared the industry's best practices in order to help these retail brands. Tools such Facebook ads and Shopee's user engagement tools were showcased too. Participants were also allowed to have a moment with the speakers to open up a two-way conversation that will allow exchanges of idea.

Facebook's Head of eCommerce, Deepesh Trivedi, stated this about helping Filipino sellers:

We’re committed to helping Filipino sellers grow their businesses and unlock growth opportunities on mobile to better reach their customers. As part of that, we’re excited to continue working alongside Shopee to drive more educational efforts, and help sellers reach over 66 million Filipinos on Facebook

Shopee's University Series started last February 2016 and has been to 30 cities since then. Shopee plans to expand by using a more extensive curriculum and inviting more experts in the eCommerce business.
