PLDT launches "Smart City" for LGUs
PLDT ushering in their Smart City program with #Ready Initiative

PLDT launched a new program to give LGUs a platform to advance their public service and their citizens' welfare. This will also help develop local economy and social development.

PLDT Enterprise looks to start the PLDT Smart City program with their first initiative aptly named #READY. They are going to provide LGUs with digital communications and information management systems that is going to improve the monitoring of public safety and especially disaster and emergency situations.

PLDT's Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan said this about the #READY initiative:

The #READY initiative falls under Public Safety – the first main pillar of our Smart City campaign we are undertaking. The other three major pillars are economic growth, citizen welfare, and digital infrastructure.  These initiatives will equip our LGUs with the digital tools to build a connected, resilient, and sustainable community and move towards becoming a future-ready Smart City.

To make #READY a successful program, the NDRRMC and PLDT are working working together to help LGUs be more effective and efficient when it comes to being the first responders and front liners during emergencies and natural disaster situations.

NDRRMC's Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad explained the importance of tech advancements in their field:

Communication is essential in our operations, from disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Thanks to advancements in technology, we are able to better prepare for these incidents and effectively disseminate warnings to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, damages, and casualties.

One example of PLDT Enterprise's efforts in helping disaster prevention is the improvement of the SOS dispatch and SMS warnings. A more reliable mobile communications and an informative mass SMS warnings and announcement will be part of a basic package provided to LGUs.

They can also expand these services so that it includes the 911 hotline, Smart SMS broadcast service, a full CRM command center, website development, dedicated fiber connectivity, and satellite phones.

PLDT Chief Revenue Officer and Executive VP Eric R. Alberto stated this about the improvements these program provides to LGUs:

The safety of its citizens is the first concern of any Smart City. PLDT’s #READY gives our local governments the tools to ensure their constituents’ safety during times of calamity and emergency, aid efforts in minimizing loss of lives and damage to properties, and speed up recovery and rehabilitation.

In addition to these programs for disaster prevention, a Smart City will also have an improved economic system. LGUs are going to enjoy economic growth through job openings, promotion of local businesses and attracting investors.

With online businesses, payment solutions, optimized websites and micro-lending financial solutions gaining more popularity, the presence of better digital platforms will only boost business for cities.

Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT and Smart Enterprise Groups, Juan Victor I. Hernandez spoke about PLDT's commitment in advancing the country's economic development:

The safety of its citizens is the first concern of any Smart City. PLDT’s #READY gives our local governments the tools to ensure their constituents’ safety during times of calamity and emergency, aid efforts in minimizing loss of lives and damage to properties, and speed up recovery and rehabilitation.

Transactions with the different government agency will also be improved through the Citizen App. Here, transparency and efficiency is their main aim. Any interaction between the government and their constituents will be recorded digitally. Payment transactions will also be done through an automated system using Paymaya Payment Platforms.

PLDT's FVP and Head of PLDT SME Nation Mitch Locsin states this about the country's improving technological capabilities:

These technological advancements that we are advocating have all been possible through PLDT’s investments in building a future-ready network which we hope will help catapult the country to a truly Smart Nation.

Sounds good right?
