Smart reported massive growth on LTE device usage and traffic last year

Smart Communications, Inc. recently reported the company's growth and achievement last year of 2017.

The number of LTE devices used on Smart's networked jumped to 102 percent (doubled) while LTE data traffic was up to 204 percent (tripled) nationwide year-on-year.

The results of our network upgrades are evident. More and more customers are making the leap to LTE where they enjoy faster internet speeds, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT and Smart Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering.

In the provices, Smart recorded an increase of 219 percent and 75 percent in Cebu and Davao del Sur respectively versus last 2016.

Smart's statement also revealed that their company completed both 3G and LTE rollout in those areas.

LTE data traffic in Pampanga rose to 130 percent double) and 244 percent (triple) in Bulacan. Rollout of LTE sites are ongoing on those areas.

Smart also claimed that the number of LTE capable devices in Cebu and Davao also doubled year-on-year or 95 percent and 108 percent, respectively.

Smart is also helping customers upgrade LTE SIMs for FREE and launched numerous digital services and solutions bundled with data access last year.

The PLDT group also launched LTE for Sun subscribers in Cebu last year.

This 2018, Smart is expected to roll-out its LTE-A service with carrier aggregation in more areas of the country.

Carrier aggregation can combine two or more frequency bands to deliver bigger bandwith and faster data speeds to mobile devices.
