Over 14 Gbps!

According to Smart, the speeds were achieved with the use of a 5G New Radio technology. It is also the second set of global standards that was recently ratified.

The coming of 5G opens up many opportunities to offer a wider selection of relevant services and solutions to our customers, said Eric R. Alberto, PLDT and Smart Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer.

It is definitely faster than the 6.5 Gbps speed that Smart and Huawei achieved earlier this month.

Now that global standards have already been approved, we are already investing in future-proofing our network and making sure that our network is ready for 5G, he added.

Smart also stated that they will be upgrading the backhaul connecting the network's cell sites around the country alongside deploying 5G-ready equipment in the ongoing LTE roll-out.

5G is expected to rollout on the second half of 2019 or early 2020 globally.

We will keep you guys posted!
