Unboxing / Accessories

Plenty stuff inside!
Plenty stuff inside!

The Asus ZenFone Live Media Editon we have comes in a very well presented and generous package. We got a HUGE shoe box like package which contains the box of the phone itself together with other freebies like a tripod w/ mount, and Lolliflash.

Also, you'll find pair of mirror deep inside the box, one with stand, and one without stand. Very feminine.

For the actual phone package, you'll find a standard 1A USB wall charger, USB to micro USB data / charging cables, earbuds w/ mic, and SIM ejector tool. Even with the lack of a FREE case, we find it hard to complain.

Build Quality / Design

The construction of the Asus ZenFone Live is quite good for the price. The handset comes in a mostly metal unibody like structure w/ good curves and textured buttons. In front, the 2.5D curved glass on top of the screen seems to have some sort of glass protection and oleophobic coating against fingerprint smudges.

In terms of design, it reminds us of other affordable handsets from OPPO and Vivo. It has the familiar HTC like look that other manufacturers like Apple copied. It is curvy all over, slim, and doesn't have camera bump. The best part, the black border bezel on the side of the screen is far from thick.

Design is familiar, but construction is decent for the price!

The handset also has standard button and ports placements. The headphone jack is still there, the volume rocker and power button is at the right side, and there's a pair of microphone on top and below.

As a result, the phone is highly comfortable to hold and the buttons are easy to reach or locate.

Initial findings

1. Build is okayish and design is usual, but the 2.5D curved HD screen looks great for the price and it has 10 points of multitouch.
2. Snapdragon 410 is slower compared to most modern budget chipsets, but it is still enough for social media use and running live streaming apps.
3. The handset still comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, but it has the newer ZenUI 3.5 skin. Usual ZenFone bloats are present though.
4. The 13 MP f/2.0 main camera has plenty of detail in daylight. It is also well saturated. The camera in front has good colors and has flash in front, but it has the tendency to over beautify even on low beautify levels.
5. OTG works, there's LED notification, LTE is pretty stable, microphone quality is clear, no lighting on physical Android keys, and there's no fingerprint scanner.

As of the moment

For doing beautified live videos on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube, the Asus ZenFone Live is on point. The microphone quality is also clear and it has a nice type of 5 inch HD 2.5D screen. However, its chipset is already dated.

We'll check if it can still keep up with most modern similarly priced phones.
