Smart powers the Sarangani Bay Festival with LTE-A

Smart has committed to cover 90% of the contry's cities and municipalities with mobile data service by the end of 2018.

During the Sarangani Bay Festival, Smart unleashed the LTE-Advanced and carrier aggregation technology in the province to improve the mobile internet experience of residents and tourists.

It also covered the sporting and music events during the festival. LTE-A was rolled out in Gumasa, Sarangani Bay and subscribers have reported that download speeds went up to over 40 Mbps.

In the first quarter of 2018, Smart has already installed 1,300 more LTE base stations in the country which raises the total number to over 10,000 stations nationwide.

The base station can use various radio frequency, including 700 MHz band, for better coverage and indoor penetration. Their target number of base stations is 17,700 by the end of 2018 and raise the number of LTE-equipped cell sites to 6800.

Other summer hotspots that were included in Smart's efforts to roll out LTE-A include Batanes, Sagada and Baguio.
