Computex 2018: Synology announced new Products and Software

At Computex 2018, Synology announced a myriad of new products, software and system updates at their Solution Exhibition. What did they showcase?

First up is the Synology Mesh Router MR2200ac and SRM 1.2. The MR2200ac is Synology;s first mesh router which comes with Qualcomm IPQ4019 quad-core processors and tri-band WiFi which allows users to expand their WiFi coverage. It also makes for a more flexible router deployment. The settings and remote management can be done through the web interface and the dedicated mobile app called DS router.

The SRM 1.2 comes with more configurations such as user profile creation, detailed traffic management, advanced web filters and whitelisting features. Google Safe Browsing and DSN/IP threat intelligence are already built-in so security and privacy is not a problem.

Next up is for a centralized backup and virtualization solution. Active Backup for Business gives complete protection of your workloads and data on PCs, Windows and Linux-based servers and even Virtual Machines. The support for Changed Block Tracking tech will only back up modified blocks while global deduplication detects and deletes duplicate files.

Virtual Machine Manager allows users to run virtual mackines in a cluster infrastracture with up to seven Synology NAS. VMM optimized load balancing as well as resource allocation. The new VMM Pro also offers additional features such as scheduled backup and replication of virtual machines to another Synology NAS while protecting digital business assets. 

Active Backup for Business can back up virtual machines and physical servers and can then be restored via VMM which gives user a Physical-to-Virtual recovery system.

LiveCam in action

LiveCam is a new application in Surveillance Station 8.2 that can turn your spare or old smartphone into an IP Camera. There is also an upgraded Application Center comes with 26 applications and utilities to help users manage their extensions.

DSM 6.2 and the new NAS Models

For a better and elevated user experience, Synology releases the DSM 6.2 which delivers a more reliable, efficient and secure NAS experiemce. DSM 6.2 can support the Advanced LUN which increases sequential writing performance by 46% and can complete recovery in just seconds.

There is the revamped Synology High Availability 2.0 reduces the initial setup time for a cluster.  There are also new NAS models including the Intel Celeron J3455-powered DS1019+, compact DS619slim, highly-scalable DS2419+, brand new 2U RackStation RS1219+, and RS1619xs+, the first Synology 1U XS series flagship.

These are great for those with bigger networks to manage.
