Speed test in Quezon City!

Consumers in the National Capital Region, particularly in areas of Quezon City, Marikina City, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon, are now enjoying faster internet connectivity.

Smart said its towers in Manila and Makati are expected to be upgraded by October of this year.

Currently, it successfully deployed more than 2,000 LTE sites across Metro Manila, carrying low-frequency bands such as the 700 MHz band for wider coverage and better indoor penetration, and high-frequency bands like 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands for additional capacity.

The telco's wireless subsidiary is also banking on carrier aggregation and 5-component carrier aggregation technologies to further strengthen the group’s plan to modernize its network.

Smart is also eyeing to have 17,700 LTE base stations across the country and increase the number of LTE-equipped cell sites to over 6,800. It already fired up LTE connectivity in Batanes, Sagada and Cagayan, as well as in Palawan, Sorsogon, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Davao and Sarangani, among others.

This modernization project of Smart was in a bid to address Filipinos’ growing demand for data.

Because of these efforts, Smart has been named by Ookla, a global leader in internet testing and analysis, as the fastest mobile network for the first quarter to second quarter of this year.
