MediaTek stated that it got the highest ever AI benchmark score compared with the competition. According to the benchmark test by ETH Zurich, a science, technology, engineering and mathematics university in Switzerland, the P90 bested the Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855 in terms of AI performance.

It got a score of 25,645 which is higher compared with the 22,082 and 21,526 scores of the Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855, respectively.

Helio P90 Specs

The Helio P90 boasts the APU 2.0, the AI architecture by MediaTek which is said to come with 4x better performance than previous generation Helio P60 and P70 chipsets. It is designed to help users run intensive AI tasks with ease while delivering improved battery life. It has an industry leading 1127 GMACs (2.25TOPs) performance.

It uses two big ARM Cortex-A75 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 smaller cores for power efficiency clocked at 2.0GHz. It also uses the  Imagination Technologies PowerVR GM 9446 GPU which promises 50 percent better gaming performance than previous generations. It is said to be 2x faster than the Mali-G72 MP3 GPU.

It also has MediaTek's new CorePilot technology to ensure the efficiency of its cores for the great combination of strong performance and good battery life. It even has support for up to 40W fast charging and 15W wireless charging

The P90 also supports Google Lens, deep learning facial recognition, real-time beautification, object and scene identification, improve AR for photos, mixed reality acceleration, and other real-time enhancements.

The P90 is also designed to let you capture great photos with its improved 14-bit triple-ISP. It has support for a single 48MP primary camera or a 24MP + 16MP dual-camera. In their presentation, MediaTek stated that it supports 16MP 120-degree wide-angle camera, 48MP 80-degree primary camera, and an 8MP 40-degree telephoto camera.

It is also capable of 14-bit RAW and 10-bit YUB processing for more flexibility to capture and process photos.

It can also detect faces and scenes, shoot better HDR images, help in taking detailed low light images, and take 480p super slow-motion videos on HD quality.

The Helio P90 also has support for dual SIM dual VoLTE 4G LTE WorldMode with a fast Cat 12 (DL)/Cat 13 (UL) 4G LTE modem, 4x4 MIMO and 256QAM, support for 2x2 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 5.0.

MediaTek also said that IT devs could make AI applications with the Helio P90 with common frameworks such as TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe and Caffe2. They are based on MediaTek's NeuroPilot SDK which is fully compliant to Google Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI).

Availability

The Helio P90 is expected to power several smartphone globally starting in Q1 2019.
