What makes the Kirin 990 series special?

The Kirin 990 series is created with one of the leading 7nm technology combined with a EUV manufacturing process.

The combination of these two results in competitive performance, power efficiency, and transistor density. Huawei also stated that this has the most intricate 5G SoC with most transistors and the most comprehensive functions as there are 10.3B transistors in an area that is tiny as a fingernail.

Also, the Kirin 990 chip merges the processor and the 5G baseband into a single unit that is claimed to result in its best performance and 5G connection.  Apart from that, it significantly boosts chip integration while lowering power consumption and heat generation. As seen on the Mate 30, it gives a great 5G connection experience with support for 2G/3G/4G/5G networks, NSA + SA networking modes. It also has 5G + 4G dual card dual standby, as well as FDD+TDD full frequency bands. This smartphone, in particular, can download a movie or game data in just a few seconds.

Huawei also showcased the 16-Core Mali-G76 GPU of the Kirin 990 series. As explained, it has a three-level power-efficient architecture for CPU, comprising of two supersized cores, two big cores, and four micro cores, which delivers the main frequency up to 2.86GHz. This chipset also reported having the largest GPU known as the 16-core Mali-G76 GPU cluster. Additionally, it sports a system-level Smart Cache for improved gaming experience and image quality.

Unlike the usual practices that concentrate only on the temporal NR, Huawei stated that Kirin 990 is the first to implement dual-domain NR. NR to videos with hybrid frequencies is added for an accurate noise separation to produce sharper video images in low light conditions. Also, there are an AI segmentation tunes images colors delicately, offering cinema-grade viewing experiences.

Another feature that was discussed by Huawei is the Face AR. This one enables s face modeling, real-time tracking, and facial expression capturing, and even health data analysis. Face AR is possible with the upgraded ISP of Kirin 990.
