vivo V20 Pro 5G Unboxing and First Impressions

OPPO
Infinix
To expand its 5G footprint in the Philippines, vivo recently introduced the V20 Pro 5G in the Philippines. This device is on top of the V20 family.
Sleek and capable?

Compared to its lower-end V20 SE and V20 siblings, the V20 Pro 5G, sports a faster chip and better overall specs.

vivo also claimed that the V20 Pro 5G is the world's slimmest smartphone with 5G connectivity measuring at just 7.39 mm. Apart from that, the handset also sports an attractive design, pretty capable specs, and plenty of cameras with interesting features like the Eye Autofocus.

At PHP 24,999, it is one of the few handsets with 5G connectivity in the country.

Let's take a look at it!

Unboxing/Accessories

The box

The 20 Pro arrived in a nice-looking box showing the logo of the phone as well as its model name and its storage capacity.

When unboxed, you'll see the phone itself, clear case, SIM ejector tool, FlashCharge 3.0 33W power brick, USB-A to USB-C data/charging cable, USB-C to 3.5mm headphone dongle, and earphones with microphone.

Also, upon closer inspection, you'll see that it has a FREE pre-installed screen protector. It is a welcome addition as always.

Build Quality/Design

Back design
Back design

At the back, the V20 Pro 5G is sporting a thin layer of AG Matte Glass material back, a rectangular-shaped camera hump with LED flash in the metal island, a metallic frame with curved edges, and a glass display.

Shiny and stylish looking back design!

The glass display is protected against hairline scratches and accidental drops by an unspecified version of Gorilla Glass. Since the back is using an AG Matte Glass material, it isn't prone to scratches and fingerprint smudges as well.

Also, it is nice to know that it has a red rubber gasket suggesting that it has some sort of resistance against water splashes.

Design-wise, it is mostly positive. The 2.5D glass back panel is stunning. The unit that we have the Sunset Melody version. But, you can also get it in Midnight Jazz and Moonlight Sonata colorways.

The Sunset Melody version is the most unique of the 3 as it shows different hues of purple, orange-gold, and sky blue colors from different angles. We also like its matte glass finish and the
Big Eye-like triple camera design setup which reminds us of some modern high-end phones.

It contains the 64MP f/1.89 Motion AF cam with Eye AF + 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle w/ 2.5cm macro + 2MP f/2.4 + dual-tone LED flash. Also, vivo managed to include a hidden tracking microphone on the right side of the rear camera. This is for 3D audio and audio zooming.

The camera bump is far from thick so the phone is not wobbly when placed on a flat surface.
Big display with notch

In the front, it has a large 6.44-inch 2.5D curved panel with super-thin top, side, and bottom bezels. But, it has a wider type of notch akin to older 2018 smartphones. The reason for that is vivo needed to fit a 44MP main shooter and an 8MP ultra-wide secondary camera.

Yes, there are other phones like the Reno3 Pro with a pill-shaped punch-hole despite using a 44MP sensor, but its secondary lens is just a depth sensor and not a larger ultra-wide-angle camera.

Large display with a notch!

But still, I think that this has over 90 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is still immersive looking overall.

Above the notch is the earspeaker for calls.

On top, there's a microphone hole. Below, you'll see the pinhole for the dual nano-SIM tray slot, another microphone, USB-C port, and the loudspeaker grille.
Left and right
Left and right

There's nothing at left and you will see the power key as well as the volume up and down keys at right.

Because of this, the phone is reasonably small at 158.82 x 74.20. It is also very thin at 7.39 mm.

In fact, vivo is claiming that this is the thinnest 5G-ready smartphone. vivo said that they used a special antenna design to make this possible. That's pretty impressive as this phone also has a pretty large 4,000mAh battery, Vapor Chamber Liquid Cooling, and all those impressive smartphone hardware.

The handset also has enough heft at 170 grams. But, it is far from being considered as heavy.

The overall feel of the handset is it is comfortable to hold due to its enough curves, not that big size, and slim/lightweight profile.

It is just a bit slippery which is normal for smartphones with glass back designs. Just use the clear case for a better grip.

As of the moment

Out of the box, its slim design is highly attractive thanks to its matte-like AG Glass finish and AMOLED screen with tiny bezels even if it has a bigger notch as well as its strong set of back and front cameras with innovative features such as the Eye AF system which helped us take crisp photos most of the time even for selfies.
Reasonable speed
Reasonable speed

For a camera-focused offering, this one is also reasonably fast thanks to its use of the Snapdragon 765G chipset. It even has the now and future-ready 5G connectivity that can provide pretty fast mobile speeds in select areas.

So far, we think that the vivo V20 Pro 5G is a competitive style and camera-focused smartphone for the PHP 24,999 asking price.
