7-Eleven to start charging a convenience fee for GCash cash-ins

In a text advisory on Friday, the convenience store chain said it would start charging a 1 percent convenience fee for GCash cash-in transactions.

This fee will be deducted automatically from the amount you cashed in to your GCash wallet, the advisory read.

Before, customers can load their GCash accounts through 7-Eleven without worrying about paying additional fees.

GCash is supported by Ayala Group, Globe Telecom, and Ant Financial.

Currently, GCash boasts 40 million accounts as of end-April. The number of active users of GCash also surpassed international apps like Spotify and Viber.

The mobile wallet giant expects transactions this year will double to a whopping PHP 2 trillion as more Filipinos realize the advantage of tapping digital payment systems, said Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest L. Cu.

In GCash, we pride ourselves in promoting nationwide financial inclusion, true to our goal of Finance for All. It has become ubiquitous with the needs that have arisen during the pandemic, Cu said.
