As a recap, the Moto G50 5G was launched in PH at the end of August. It has a 90Hz HD+ IPS screen, the 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 4GB RAM, 128GB expandable storage, a 5,000mAh battery, a 48MP triple camera setup, and a 123MP selfie camera.

Unboxing/Accessories

What's in the box?

The Moto G50 5G came in a cool-looking box in a dark blue-green shade. It has the familiar-looking white Motorola logo in the middle and the Moto G50 5G branding in Lime Green at the bottom. Around the box, you get more branding text, some key specs, and certification information.

Inside the box, you get the Moto G50 5G unit, the USB-C charging cable, a FREE protective case, the wall adapter, some paperwork, a SIM eject tool, and a pair of wired earphones.

Build Quality/Design

Out of the box, the Moto G50 5G looks great. For the price, it feels and looks premium.

It is made out of 3D curved glasstic material at the back and a plastic frame. The front panel is obviously glass, but there is no mention of any glass protection like Corning Gorilla Glass.

Unlike most budget and mid-range smartphones, it comes with a water repellent design for protection against accidental water splashes and raindrops.

Neat design, water-repellant body!

But, in terms of durability, this device is average at this price point. Without a case, it will likely survive a few drops on smooth flooring with just dents and scratches as damage. Just put a case and it will surely last for a while.

Design-wise, we got the Meteorite Grey colorway which has a bluish-tint at the back. It has a reflective finish that shines differently depending on how the light hits it. Note that this is also available in Green if you prefer that.

It features a square camera hump housing the triple camera setup and a minimal Motorola logo as well.

At the camera bump, you will find the 48MP f/1.7 + 2MP f/2.4 macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth + LED flash.

It is also not slippery but it is a fingerprint magnet though.

In front, the handset uses a 6.5-inch 2.5D curved IPS Max Vision screen with 1600 x 720 HD+ resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a 270 ppi pixel density. It also has thin bezels for the top and sides while a thicker one for the chin.

HD-only resolution, but with high-refresh-rate

It also has a small dewdrop notch for the 13MP f/2.2 selfie camera at the front. We also like that it has a pre-installed screen protector.

On top, all you get is a microphone. At the bottom, you get the speaker grille, USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and another microphone.

On the left side, there is the SIM card tray while on the right side it has the dedicated Google Assistant button, volume rocker, and the power button/side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The phone measures 167 x 76.4 x 9.26 mm and weighs 206 g. We were easily able to hold and use it with one hand which is always a plus.

Stay tuned for our full review where we test it for multi-tasking, gaming, camera samples, and our overall experience with Moto G50 5G.

As of the moment

For PHP 10,495, the Moto G50 5G was able to impress us out of the box.

It looks and feels premium with a pretty finish and solid build. It has decent specs like the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, big battery capacity, and very clean stock Android-like skin.

We would have liked it better if it has better camera software (so far) and a crisper display, but it is a huge plus that it has 5G at this price point. Tested it with Smart 5G and it has decent signal reception for a budget 5G smartphone.

We are excited to put the Moto G50 5G through its paces to see if it is one of the more competitive budget 5G smartphones in the Philippines.

Stay tuned for the full review soon!
