According to the report, the global smartphone SoC chipset and baseband market improved by 23 percent year-on-year in Q1 2022. This is a 36 percent increase from Q1 2021.

In the ranking, Qualcomm leads with 44 percent market share YoY, Apple is second with 26 percent market share, Mediatek comes in third with 19 percent, and Samsung is fourth with 7 percent. UNISOC came in with 3 percent and Huawei managed a 1 percent market share.

Qualcomm's revenue increased by 56 percent year over year in Q1 2022, owing to a larger premium mix that boosted ASPs. Qualcomm's sales of discrete basebands account for around a quarter of its smartphone AP/SoC and baseband revenues.

Apple took second place with a 26 percent market share, thanks to strong demand for the luxury iPhone 13 series. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models employ Qualcomm's separate basebands for 5G connection.
