The Reno8 Z 5G

To recap, this smartphone is the more affordable version of the series, priced at PHP 19,999 you will be getting a 6.43-inch FHD+ Rigid AMOLED screen and 6nm SD695 SoC.

In 2022, these are the typical hardware you will see around on different brands.

We also noticed that it is just a refreshed Reno7 Z 5G as they are quite identical in most details with very few minor changes.

Anyway, let's found out!

Unboxing/Accessories

The phone's box

The box arrived in a familiar look in Mint Green colors, they replaced the printout with a huge number 8 on the upper left portion while below you will see the new branding and the 5G logo.

You only need to slide the box to open it. Upon doing so, you will be greeted with the smartphone unit, USB-C cable, 33W fast charger, TPU transparent case, SIM injector tool, and some paper documents like the warranty and quick guide.

Unfortunately, you won't see stock earphones with microphones in this box.

Build Quality and Design

The back view
The back design

The Reno8 Z is quite similar in terms of design to its predecessor, the one we got here is the Starlight Black color. The plastic rear cover imitates a pitch-dark yet starry universe through its glitter-like effects. The body has a matte finish and is less prone to fingerprint smudges.

There's also the Dawnlight Gold color with the same glittery effects for those who prefer a lighter-themed device.

Another difference we spot is that the camera island is now a bit bigger and extends to the frame. It also has deeper black and is even glossier than the Reno 7 Z 5G's.

The camera rings still have LED light around them which lights up Blue when charging, the Dual Orbit Lights design.

It has a metal frame on all four sides and the device is 7.66 mm thin and weighs 181 grams. When holding the phone, it gives us the impression that it is built durably and while it may have some weight it feels solid overall.

In front, you will see the same screen size of a 6.43-inch Rigid AMOLED panel which has Full HD+ 2400 x 1080 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, 180Hz touch sampling rate, 600 nits max brightness, and the In-Display fingerprint reader.

You will also notice the side-notch placed on the upper left which others may prefer for the added viewing experience. Also based on OPPO's spec sheet the display now has SCHOTT Xensation Up glass protection.

At the top, you will see the microphone hole, while at the bottom you will find 1 speaker grill, a USB-C port, a second microphone, and a 3.5mm audio port.
The left and right side

The right side houses the power button and on the left will be the volume rockers and SIM card slot.

Moving to the cameras, it has 64MP f/1.7 + 2MP f/2.4 macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth + LED flash while the selfie shooter uses a 16MP f/2.4 sensor.

Below are some initial shots we've taken so far.

It is evident the Reno8 Z 5G is a capable camera shooter in environments with good lighting. We liked the colors, and details that the phone produced both indoors and outdoors.

Meanwhile, the Night mode also performed properly as it brightened up the picture, allowing us to see more details than the ordinary mode.

We will test out the rest of its camera features next in our full review.

As of the moment

We think that this is still mainly the Reno7 Z 5G with just a new name and the same price tag. Some change we've seen so far is the design, a new color option, and a new Android version.

Other than those, it is the same with the Reno7 Z 5G.

Anyway, we will update you once our full review is up.

Who knows? There may be something new with it that we've missed.
