HONOR 70 5G takes on the Nothing Phone (1)!
|
Nothing Phone (1) Glyph Interface |
Build/Design - The Nothing Phone (1) features a premium and unique design with a transparent back cover with eye-catching illuminating light strips.
Of course, there's the Glyph interface with 5 lighting strips that lights up when the device receives a notification, can synchronize lights with the phone's ringtones, and can show the charging progress of the device.
It is made out of recycled aluminum for the frame and has IP53 water and dust resistance. It also has a dual-camera setup at the back arranged vertically in an elliptical cutout. |
HONOR 70 5G back design |
The HONOR 70 5G features a near-flagship design and build with a metal frame and curved glass for both the front and back panels. Even with those premium materials it still manages to keep a lightweight feel of just 178 g.
Again, the Nothing Phone (1) gets points with the unique Glyph Interface but HONOR 70 5G is also no slouch with its flagship-level build and design.
Display - The Nothing Phone (1) features a 6.55-inch Gorilla Glass 5 protected 10-bit OLED screen with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+, FHD+ 2404 x 1080 resolution at 409 ppi pixel density.
The HONOR 70 5G has a 6.67-inch curved OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, and FHD+ 2400 x 1080 resolution at 221 ppi
The Nothing Phone (1) has a better 10-bit OLED panel and HDR10+ support. But, HONOR 70 5G also has an OLED panel which also provides great colors (with 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut), brightness, and contrast out of the box.
Specs - For performance, the Nothing Phone (1) features the 2.5GHz 6nm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G octa-core processor with Hexagon 770 AI chip, Adreno 642L GPU, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 33W fast charging, 15W wireless charging, 5W reverse wireless charging.
HONOR 70 Pro also has the 2.5GHz 6nm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G octa-core processor with Hexagon 770 AI chip, Adreno 642L GPU, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, and a 6,000mAh battery with 66W SuperCharge.
Overall, it's a virtual tie if we are gonna play at the price range of HONOR 70 5G. The latter also has a bigger battery with faster-wired charging. However, Nothing Phone (1) has wireless charging at its disposal and a bigger choice of RAM at a higher price. |
Nothing Phone (1) cameras |
Cameras - Nothing Phone (1) features 50MP f/1.88 Sony IMX766 with OIS, EIS + 50MP f/2.2 Samsung JN1 114-degree ultra-wide-angle w/ 4cm macro + LED flash. It also has a 16MP f/2.45 Sony IMX471 selfie camera. |
HONOR 70 5G rear cameras |
The HONOR 70 5G has a triple-camera setup with 50MP f/1.9 Sony IMX800 sensor + 50MP f/2.2 ultra-wide w/ macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth camera + LED flash. It also has a 32MP f/2.4 sensor for selfies.
In terms of sensor size, it is a tie. It comes down to the camera technology and optimizations which cannot be determined on paper. The 50MP Sony IMX800 sensor of HONOR is a better sensor compared to the 50MP Sony IMX766 of Nothing. Nothing Phone (1) has OIS and EIS on its main sensor while HONOR 70 5G has no mention of it though. The latter has an extra 2MP depth camera too.
HONOR has twice the sensor size of the selfie camera of Nothing.
Other features - Nothing Phone (1) features an In-DIsplay fingerprint sensor, WiFi 6, 5G SA/NSA, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.2, OTG, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, stereo speakers, Haptic Touch Motor, Glyph Interface, and USB-C.
HONOR 70 5G, on the other hand, is equipped with an In-Display fingerprint sensor, WiFi 6, 5G SA/NSA, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.2, OTG, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, NavIC, stereo speakers, and USB-C.
Nothing Phone (1) advantages - Unique design, IP53 certified, wireless charging, OIS/EIS inclusion, bigger RAM option
HONOR 70 5G advantages - Newer main camera sensor, 32MP selfie camera, bigger battery capacity, 66W SuperCharge, slightly more affordable
Our thoughts
Based on specs, the HONOR 70 5G makes a good case against the Nothing Phone (1) for PHP 1,000 less. It has a flagship-level build and design, a 120Hz OLED screen, a 50MP + 50MP + 2MP triple-camera setup, a bigger battery, a better selfie camera, and 66W SuperCharge.
But, Nothing Phone (1) has some quality-of-life features that are hard to pass up on at just PHP 1,000 more like the unique Glyph Interface design, IP53 certification, inclusion of OIS/EIS for the main sensor, 10-bit color + HDR10+ support for the screen, and wireless charging.
