HUAWEI nova 12 Pro and Ultra launched: Kirin 8000 or 9000SL, variable aperture, and satellite connectivity!

HUAWEI introduces the Nova 12 series today in China featuring satellite connectivity and variable aperture tech on cameras.

The phone's designs

HUAWEI nova 12 Pro and Ultra launched!

These phones feature unique premium designs with engraved nova and the HUAWEI logo on the rear cover with faux leather material.

The front and back view

At the front, you will see the 6.76-inch OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, Full HD+ 2776 x 1224 resolution. The difference would be the Ultra gets the Kunlun glass protection which brings unbreakable glass as per HUAWEI's claims.

Inside, the Pro variant is powered by the 2.4GHz Kirin 8000 8-core chip with Mali-G610 GPU. On the other hand, the Ultra gets the 2.35GHz Kirin 9000SL 6-core chip with Maleoon 910 GPU.

Both have 12GB RAM but they differ in storage options. The Pro gets 256GB and 512GB memory, while the Ultra variant has 512GB and 1TB memory.

The cameras

For cameras, they are identical as well with a 50MP main shooter + 8MP ultrawide angle w/ macro. The main highlight is that the main camera features a variable aperture that can be tweaked from f1/.4 to f/4.0. They also have 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom.

At the front, they have a 60MP primary ultra-wide camera + 8MP portrait helper both with AF.

Other features noted is the satellite connectivity which you would usually find in higher-end devices.

The rest noted are 5G, 4G, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and dual SIM support.

For OS, the phones run HarmonyOS 4.0 out of the box.

These phones are going to be available for sale on January 12, 2024. No word yet for the PH release for now. Stay tuned.
