Diversifying internet service providers in PH
Amazon Leo, a low-Earth orbit satellite network, will possibly enter the Philippine market this year, according to DICT Secretary Henry Aguda.
Nagpirmahan na kami with Amazon Leo. They're undergoing the regulatory application na, but hindi matatapos ang taon, andyan na, Aguda told ABS-CBN.
Designed as a direct competitor to SpaceX's Starlink, Amazon Leo is Amazon's low-Earth orbit satellite internet constellation that aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband through a planned fleet of over 3,200 satellites and specialized hardware.
Aguda welcomes the entry of the service provider, adding that more are expected to come but may be delayed due to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Dahil sa nangyari sa Middle East, may iba kasi doon taga-Middle East, bigyan natin sila time mag-settle in, he said.
The incoming companies will offer fiber internet services, which are vital for the Philippines.
Meanwhile, he also recognized local government initiatives to bring connectivity to their constituents following the signing of the Konektadong Pinoy law.
May mga LGU ako nakausap na nagbabalak na sila na magtatayo ng tore, sila na mag-eengganyo sa mga telco na maglagay ng cellsite doon sa mga tore, at the same time sila na rin nag-iisip na maglagay ng fiber, Aguda said.
