Microsoft's update

Optimized for gamepads

The new feature will be available across desktops, laptops, and tablets, offering a console-style Xbox experience on PC hardware.

Xbox Mode provides a controller-optimized, full-screen interface designed to streamline access to games.

The interface surfaces a user's library and recently played titles, while reducing background distractions. Users can browse and launch games using a controller, with access to a consolidated game library that includes titles from Xbox Game Pass and installed games from other major PC storefronts.

The mode can be toggled on and off alongside the standard Windows 11 desktop. Xbox Mode was previously introduced on Windows handheld devices under the name "full screen experience."

Microsoft said that player feedback from that initial release influenced the development of the Windows 11 PC version.

To access Xbox Mode, users can navigate to Settings > Windows Update and enable the option to receive updates as soon as they are available.

Microsoft noted, however, that availability is not guaranteed immediately upon enabling that setting, as the feature is being expanded gradually over the coming weeks.
