This move is designed to bolster network resiliency and disaster response capabilities and highlights how next‑gen connectivity can directly benefit communities during disasters.

By enabling emergency alerts and two‑way SMS on ordinary mobile phones—even when cell towers are down—the technology ensures people can call for help, receive vital updates, and stay connected in crisis situations.

Beyond disaster response, the trials also show promise for bridging coverage gaps in rural and maritime areas, supporting fishermen, remote workers, and underserved communities.

This move strengthens PLDT Group's broader push to build resilient networks, safeguard lives, and deliver reliable communication when it matters most.

The initiative supports President Marcos Jr.'s call for a disaster‑resilient Philippines, with DICT urging telcos and the public to harness emerging technologies for stronger emergency connectivity.

PLDT/Smart is targeting a commercial launch in the Philippines next year, with plans to eventually enable voice and data services through satellite connectivity.
