Kata is one of the better known makers midrange worthy phones that has great style and affordability. That's why it caught us off guard to when we found out that they'll release a seemingly bang per buck phone in the entry level category. Something that's quite rare for a Kata handset.

Upon opening the box, you'll see the usual accessories like the 1A wall charger / adapter, micro USB / data charging cables, 1 set of in ear monitors with mic and some paper documentations.

However, we have a problem with the charger included here as it is is the international version that's not compatible with local sockets.

After holding the device for quite a while, the Kata C1 impressed us with the way it presented itself. It's made out of an metal chrome painted plastic frame w/ slightly sharp edges, glass in front and surprisingly the plastic back cover has some faux leather coating.

In terms of the design, I'm glad to say that the Kata C1 is gorgeous in person. It's a big thing as there are very few phones that looks this good under 4K. First, you'll definitely notice on how well the faux leather back cover presented itself as it's has a feel of a real leather similar to the ZenFone Zoom. While it has some protrusion at the back, we like that it isn't that prominent compared to other phones we saw. The C1 is also ranks among the slimmest phones we've seen in this price category.

Ergonomically, the slight curved at the back and the faux leather texture adds better grip and hold of this device. However, some people may find the edges a little sharper than the norm once you tighten up your grip.

Overall, you won't have much of the problem with the way this phone showcased itself, making the Kata C1 ranks among the best in terms of style for the price.

Specs and features analysis

The Kata C1 features a 5.5 inch HD IPS screen, the newer 1.3 GHz MT6580 quad core chip, Mali 400 GPU, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB expandable ROM and 2,600 mAh of battery capacity. That configuration is the norm today for its price that's designed to make your basic to moderate experience better.

There's also a pretty large, 13 MP camera w/ AF and LED flash at the back and 5 MP selfie cam in front that should be good enough for your basic photography needs. It also has HSPA+ connectivity and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop w/ Kata UI that has no app drawer on top.

In general, this would be great for those in a budget that wants a big screened phone that looks stylish too.

As of the moment

From what we initially saw, we love the change of direction for Kata here. We think that this Kata C1 has the potential to be great handset for individuals that's particular when it comes to style. Not only that, this device has decent configuration for a budget phone with big screen.
