The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are the upgrades of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus last year. Apple has slightly improved its design, beefed up its internals, and enhanced its camera performance.

As a matter of fact, both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus has the same extremely powerful and higher-end iPhone X.

But, will that be enough to attract Apple users and even some Android users?

Craftsmanship and aesthetics are still identical w/ the iPhone 7 series. The iPhone 8 is the smaller phone while the iPhone 8 Plus is the bigger device. Both still has the sturdy 7000 series aluminum frame and IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.  IP67 means that the phone is capable of withstanding water immersion between 15 cm and 1 meter for 30 minutes.

However, this time, build is not unibody anymore. But, glass back design is back! It maybe prone to fingerprint smudges, but it looks more elegant in the eyes compared w/ the older gen iPhones. It slightly reminds us of iPhone 4's glass back design.

Apple also claimed that its the most durable glass ever on a smartphone yet. However, it doesn't really feel that durable. It could still break or crack when dropped. Putting a protective case is the best solution to prevent such unwanted scene from happening.

Like what we mentioned earlier, the iPhone 8 comes w/ a 4.7-inch Retina 1334 x 750 resolution. It looks bright and accurate in colors. But, for the price, pixel density is quite low at just 325 ppi.

On the other hand, the iPhone 8 Plus has the standard 5.5-inch 1080p screen. Like the most of the iPhones, color accuracy and viewing angles are superb. Details are decent too at around 401 pixels per inch.

The fastest chip inside!

Inside, both are powered by the 64-bit Apple A11 Bionic hexa-core processor w/ A.I. capabilities and Apple made GPU. That chip is capable of producing the highest single-core and multi-core performance on a smartphone yet.

We weren't really able to fully test the capabilities of this chip. But, based on our initial trials, everything is silky smooth from opening of apps, browser, cameras, and etc.

RAM size starts at 2GB for the iPhone 8 and 3GB for the iPhone 8 Plus. That is low compared w/ the 6GB to 8GB RAM that we normally see on high-end Android counterparts, but Apple knows how to optimize their products. That's just fine!

Storage size starts at 64GB up to 256GB. They're still not expandable though.

The exact battery size for both models weren't specified. Apple just claimed that the iPhone 8 can last up to 12 hours of mobile data usage. On the other hand, the iPhone 8 Plus has up to 13 hours of mobile data usage. Both has Qi wireless charging support now.

The iPhone 8 only has a single camera setup. In particular, its a 12MP f/1.8 w/ OIS, laser AF, PDAF, and LED flash.

On the other hand, the iPhone 8 Plus boasts a 12MP f/1.8 wide-angle + f/2.8 w/ 2x optical zoom, OIS, and LED flash.

The iPhone 8 Plus still has the portrait mode for more natural bokeh shots and has the new portrait lighting feature that lets you adjust the lighting on your subject and even edit it after taking the photo.

Both has 4K 60 fps recording, 1080 HD 240 fps slow motion mode, and AR (augmented reality) w/ new gyroscope and accelerometer for motion tracking.

Also, both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus recorded very high scores at DxOMark, only the iPhone X, Mate 10 series, and Pixel 2 series are above them in terms of picture and video quality performance.

The rest of the features

Both models has WiFi, 3G, LTE-A, Bluetooth 5.0, and fingerprint scanner in front. The new iPhones also highlights an enhanced stereo speakers which is 25% louder than the iPhone 7 w/ deeper bass.

Both also has sensors like accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer. The new iPhones boot w/ iOS 11 operating system.
