The reason why the company has skipped number 4 is to avoid bad luck. Anyway, that's really not important at all. We need to find out why it is dubbed as the #FlagshipKiller once more.

First, this phone has a MONSTROUS specs-to-price ratio. It is the most affordable Snadpdragon 835 device with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB ROM that's officially available in the Philippines today.

Second, this the company's first ever smartphone with dual camera setup was designed to compete against the very best in the world today.

Now, it's time to check if it is worth all the hype!

Unboxing / Accessories

The packaging of OnePlus stayed the same. It still has the usual white rectangular box with red OnePlus logo printed.

Inside, it has the company's impressive proprietary 4A USB Dash Charger, stylish red USB Type C data / cables with cable manager, SIM ejector tool and the usual plastic screen protector on top.

There's no case included inside.

Build Quality / Design

Sturdy premium build!
Sturdy premium build!

Coming from the OnePlus 3 and 3T, the OnePlus 5 arrived with much improved aesthetics and overall craftsmanship.

The build is definitely flagship grade!

As a matter of fact, its construction ranks among the most impressive out there. It is sturdy and has Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the screen for better protection against scratches and drops.

Design-wise, it is sleeker, slimmer and curvier than ever. It has beautiful chamfered edges, 2.5D curved glass on the screen, beautiful paint finish and an iPhone-like antenna band design. Yes, there's a slight camera hump, it is forgiveable overall.

In person, this is the best looking OnePlus device yet!

It also has all good buttons and ports placement. The company has retained the silent key at left, fingerprint scanner in front and the VERY USEFUL 3.5 mm headphone jack slot below.

Ergonomically, this lightweight yet sturdy device it sits nicely in our hands. It is just slippery at times. Make sure that your grip is tight always.

Initial Findings

Speedy fingerprint reader!

1. Even if it isn't using the 18:9 screen yet, the OnePlus 5 is beautiful. It is like the more premium iPhone in terms of design and build. The 5.5 Inch Optic AMOLED display is impressive, but it is still on full HD. Most high-end competitors are on QHD already.
2. The Snapdragon 835 octa core chip inside this machine is arguably the fastest chip in the world today. As a result, we recorded almost 180K in our initial battery test. That's insane considering that we only have the 6 GB RAM / 64 GB ROM model. Imagine the things that 8 GB RAM / 8 GB ROM variant can do. Even with the benchmark cheating allegations, this is a BEASTLY device. Storage isn't expandable though.
3. It boots with Android 7.1 Nougat OS w/ Oxygen OS out of the box. It now has the Google Pixel like launcher that's sleeker. It is very smooth so far.
4. It has an impressive 16 MP f/1.7 Sony IMX398 + 20 MP f/2.6 Sony IMX350 2x telephoto lens w/ PDAF, EIS, and dual LED flash behind. It has portrait mode, 2x zoom and full manual mode. In front, the 16 MP selfie shooter ranks is arguably the best selfie camera on a flagship phone today.
5. Android keys is on screen, USB Type C works, reverse charging is still available, LED is on the left-top side and fingerprint scanner is pretty accurate and fast.
