Mediatek Announces Helio P23 and P30

These chipsets are robust upgrades coming from the P20 series last year and half. It retained the same Cortex A53 octa core processor (four clocked at 2.3 GHz, four clocked at 1.65 GHz), but MediaTek has upgraded the GPUs and modems.

The GPU is upgraded to Mali G71 MP2 with 770 MHz or 950 MHz frequency which is a solid upgrade over Mali T880 of both P20 and P25.

The new chipsets incorporate newer generation IP block that brings them closer to the Helio X30 flagship processor. The P23 and the P30 will also provide more versatility when browsing, and taking pictures with the dual camera setup.

The P23 can support dual 13 MP cameras or a single 24 MP sensor. On the other hand, the P30 can go for dual 16 MP or 25 MP single cam behind.

These new chips by MediaTek also now has support for DSDS (Dual Sim Dual Standby) mode, enabling both SIM cards to run LTE connection.

The Helio P-series is the company's "Premium Performance" chips that has midrange pricing, but with higher-end features.

MediaTek will be rolling out these next quarter. The P23 will be available worldwide while the P30 will be available in China first because of the price.
