PLDT Consumer Group invested PHP 11B to modernize WiFi and LTE in PH!

Last night PLDT's Consumer Group has announced that they are further boosting investments for its fixed and wireless networks to improve internet service.

In particular, PLDT Home is spending PHP 11B (billion) in the next two years to further provide consumers w/ the best data experience and support everyone's increasing digital lifestyle.

This upgrade will roll-out to over one million ports nationwide. It will be the upgrade that its over 1.3 million subscribers will surely enjoy soon.

We are leveling up their broadband experience with the migration of our DSL customers to Fibr-fast connectivity. This will fortify the foundation of the SmartHome for the digitally savvy Filipino family, said PLDT FVP and Head of Home Business Marco Borlongan. With our network modernization program, we are bringing the power of Fibr to every Filipino home so that our subscribers can better enjoy their digital lifestyle through access to world-class Internet. This year, we’ve been rolling out fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network nationwide and we’ve also teamed up with world-renowned content platforms and providers to ensure that our subscribers get the best possible home entertainment experience, he stressed.

By the end of this 2017, PLDT is expected to expand its FTTH coverage to about four million homes. The company is also currently deploying hybrid fiber technologies to make existing customers enjoy fiber-like speeds.

On the other hand, Smart Communications has also finished its LTE upgrade rollout in Metro Cebu, Metro Davao, Boracay, and Rizal province. In Metro Manila, the LTE upgrade is currently on-going.

By end-2018, over 90% of the country’s population will have Smart LTE coverage, PLDT and Smart FVP and Head of Consumer Business for Market Development Oscar A. Reyes, Jr. said. In addition, Smart WiFi also now present in the sea ports of Batangas City and Calapan in Mindoro. Moreover, Smart WiFi can also be accessed in several major bus terminals and public areas like popular entertainment venues and food park.

Earlier this month, the telco giant has also announced that they're doubling its LTE capacity in Marikina and Quezon City. 

For the last decade, PLDT has invested around PHP 300 billion to improve fixed and wireless network infrastructure in the country.
