Counterpoint: Apple grabs 62 percent of global smartphone profit

Apple failed to outnumber the units sold of Samsung and Huawei, but the American tech giant recorded majority or 62 percent of the global profits for the second quarter.

Data from Counterpoint showed that in April to June period, the US-based tech giant performed well, with the figure translating to USD 6 billion in net income on USD 30 billion of revenues.
Apple failed to outnumber the units sold of Samsung and Huawei, but they still have the biggest profit!

Its chief rival Samsung, meanwhile, has been suffering from the last three years. It only clinched 17 percent of the global profits in the period, lower compared to Apple’s share.

Samsung‘s weak numbers were weighed down by the negative performance of the Galaxy 9 in the market.
Premium smartphone segment

The market research firm said Apple led the smartphones worth USD 800 or more. While Apple still got the USD 600 to USD 800 segment with 44 percent, Korea’s Samsung got 41 percent, only 3 percent lower than Apple's. 

Chinese brands, on the other hand, sustained strong performance in the industry, with Huawei and Xiaomi leading the pack.

Counterpoint said Chinese manufacturers improved in capturing the USD 400 to USD 600 segement. Oppo matched Apple, Huawei nearly tied with Samsung and OnePlus fought for the leftovers.
