Quick Analysis

The Honor 8X and OPPO F9 has advantages and weaknesses over each other. It is a pretty good match.

Real glass

Build/Design - Both are beautiful looking devices. The Honor 8X is using a real metal and glass build while the OPPO F9 has the acrylic glass-like back and polycarbonate shell.

Petal-like glass design

Personally, the design of the OPPO F9 is flashier. However, the simpler approach and metal/glass construction of the Honor 8X looks and feels better in my opinion.

Honor 8X screen

Display - Both are big phones with big screens! The Honor 8X has the bigger 6.5-inch IPS screen with FHD_+ 2340 x 1080 resolution at 396 ppi. On the other hand the F9 has smaller yet sharper 6.3-inch panel with FHD+ 2340 x 1080 resolution at 409 ppi. Both has the 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio.

OPPO F9 screen

The OPPO F9 has the waterdrop style screen with a much smaller notch. It has 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. However, the chin bezel of the Honor 8X is smaller at 4.2 mm. The result? it has a slightly higher 91 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Specs - Both devices are very capable on paper. The Honor 8X has new Kirin 710 processor. It is the same chip found on the Nova 3i. On the other hand, the OPPO F9 has the Helio P60 processor. Both has the power of AI.

The Kirin 710 has the slightly faster clock speed at 2.2GHz while the Helio P60 has the better GPU Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. The Kirin 710 has the Mali-G51 MP4 GPU and GPU Turbo technology.

On the memory part, the 8X has 4GB RAM while the F9 has 6GB RAM. Both has at least 64GB of storage. The 8X has a variant with 128GB ROM. Both are expandable with microSD slot.

The battery capacity of the 8X is bigger at 3,750mAh. But even if the battery of the F9 is smaller at 3,500mAh, it has the VOOC flash charging tech.

Cameras - The 8X has the bigger 20MP f/1.8 + 2MP camera at the back with PDAF, contrast focus, Master AI, and LED flash. The F9 has the 16MP f/1.8 sensor paired with a 2MP depth camera. It also has PDAF, AI, and LED flash.

For selfies, both has AI face beauty. But the megapixel size on the F9 is bigger at 25MP. The 8X only has a 16MP sensor.

Other features - Both devices has a fingerprint scanner, speedy face unlock, and 4G LTE connectivity. Both also has OTG, GPS, and gyroscope.

Honor 8X advantages - Premium build, bigger display, larger battery, bigger megapixel size at the back
OPPO F9 advantages - Sharper display, 6GB RAM, VOOC flash charge 

Our thoughts

Both are good for me. The Honor 8X has the more premium build, bigger display, larger battery capacity, and bigger main camera sensor.

On the other hand, opt for the OPPO F9 if you need a phone with smaller yet sharper screen. It could also be the better multitasking phone due to its larger 6GB RAM. Its battery is smaller, but it has the faster VOOC flash charging solution.

The expected price tag of the Honor 8X is lower than the PHP 17,990 of the F9. In China, the 8X has a starting price tag of CNY 1,399 or around PHP 11K.

If Honor Philippines can price it near that China SRP, the Honor 8X has a very good chance to compete with the pricier devices better.
