MediaTek Helio P70 with more advanced AI hardware will come soon

MediaTek just announced that they will be launching their latest processor by the end of October, the Helio P70.

The MediaTek Helio P60 got a lot of positive reviews and now being used in 15 smartphones after its launch on February, the Taiwanese company said that it will have its sequel by the end of the month.

Helio P70 will be very similar with the Helio P60 it will be built on the same 12 nm process and will feature an octa-core processor (four A73 and four A53) plus a Mali-G72 GPU. But they are still tight-lipped with the details of the CPU clock speed and the GPU core count.

The Helio P60 is MediaTek’s AI-focused chipset with an “AI processing unit” (APU). While the Helio P70 will be using Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which will offer higher performance.

But it is still not clear if the name change relates to the architecture or the core count. One thing is for sure, the upcoming Helio P70 is MediaTek's answer to the Snapdragon 710. 

MediaTek will soon be starting to mass produce ASIC (application-specific integrated circuits) on a 7nm process. These are reportedly to be supplying to “the world’s two leading gaming console makers”, could be from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft.
