Overall, it is an interesting match for me. Both has few advantages over each other.
 |
Glossy back design |
Build/Design - Both has a stylish glass-like glossy finish at the back. Both are mostly made out of plastic with 2.5D glass on the top. It is a pretty even match here. Some may like the notch design of the A3s and some may prefer the 18.5:9 Infinity Display of the Galaxy J4+.
 |
A3s notch |
Display - Both are equipped with an HD+ screen. The OPPO A3s has the bigger 6.3-inch display versus the 6-inch screen of the Galaxy J4+. Both are massive for the price. We do not know the actual screen performance of the J4+ yet.
Specs - OPPO is ahead here. It is using the speedier Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor with Adreno 506 GPU versus the slower Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor of the J4+.
The have the same RAM and ROM size at 2GB/16GB, respectively. The expandable storage of the J4+ is higher at 512GB though.
But, the battery capacity of the A3s is way bigger at 4,230mAh vs 3,300mAh.
 |
A3s dual-camera |
Cameras - On paper, the Galaxy J4+ has the brighter 13MP f/1.9 single sensor. It could be the better point and shoot camera here. But, the A3s has a dual-camera setup. It goes with a 13MP f/2.2 + a 2MP sensor with bokeh effect. It could be better in some conditions.
For selfies, I will personally go with the AI-assisted 8MP camera of the A3s versus the regular 5MP selfie camera of J4+
Other features - As expected, both has 4G LTE and Bluetooth 4.2. They have GPS technology as well. The GPS of Samsung is more complete though.
Samsung Galaxy J4+ advantages - Brighter f/1.9 rear camera, near complete GPS
OPPO A3s advantages - Speedier processor, better GPU, larger battery capacity, nicer selfie camera, higher LTE category
Our thoughts
The Galaxy J4+ is a surprising Samsung smartphone for the price. We liked that it has a trendy glossy back cover design, 18.5:9 Infinity Display, and f/1.9 camera for just PHP 6,990.
However, the specs of the A3s is still higher for me. It has the larger 6.2-inch notched display, speedier Snapdragon 450 processor, bigger 4,230mAh battery, and better selfie cameras.
It could also have the advantage in taking portrait shots at the back since it has a dual-camera setup. The A3s is also priced at PHP 6,990.
What do you guys think? Who are you picking?
