Build Quality/Design - We had the opportunity to have a hands on experience with the OPPO A3s and from what we saw it has a pretty decent build for the price. It is made out of sturdy plastic and it has a glass-like acrylic material at the back. There is no information about Gorilla Glass protection though. Design-wise, it is arguably the best looking smartphone at this price point. The glass-like finish made it look like a premium device.
|
OPPO A3s |
It also has very slim bezels on the sides bit the chin bezel is still a thick. There is also a thin notch up top that cannot be hidden. Fortunately, it is not that distracting, It is also easy to hold as well.
|
Vivo Y81i |
We can expect a similar sturdy plastic material with the Vivo Y81i. What we know for sure is that it has Gorilla Glass protection and that it has an All-Screen display that sports slim bezels as well.
We can say that this part of the comparison is a tie since we haven't had the chance of holding and checking the Y81 in person yet.
|
Vivo Y81i has a slightly taller 6.22-inch IPS display |
Display - The Vivo Y81 has a 6.22-inch IPS display with 1520 x 720 resolution. It also Corning Gorilla Glass protection to avoid scratches. We can expect good color reproduction and image quality here but since this is an IPS display brightness will be not as bright as AMOLED but will still be great. It also has a notch up to. We already experienced Vivo's 720p displays and going by their history, it is expected to be clear and beautiful.
|
The OPPO A3s has a 6.2-inch In-Cell IPS display |
The OPPO A3s has a 6.2-inch In-Cell IPS display running at 1440 x 720 HD+ resolution. It also has a notch as well. The image is pretty sharp for a 720p display. It also has vibrant yet accurate colors, good contrast and nice viewing angles.
In this part of the comparison, the Vivo Y81 takes a slight lead larger screen. In addition to that, it also has confirmed Gorilla Glass protection too.
Specs - The Vivo Y81i has a 2.0GHz MT6761 quad core processor, 2GB of RAM with 16GB of expandable storage and 3,260mAh battery. The choice for the quad core MT6761 could affect performance even with a higher clocked speed. This specs can be enough to be a daily driver if you understand its specs. The 3,260mAh batter is also pretty big.
The OPPO A3s, on the other hand, has a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB of RAM with 16GB of expandable storage, and a huge 4,230mAh battery.
The OPPO A3s takes this round since the Snapdragon 450 has four more cores than the Y81's MT6761. That means the A3s can handle more intensive usage. The 4,230mAh battery of the A3s also dwarfs the Y81's 3,260mAh battery.
Cameras - The Vivo Y81i has a 13MP f/2.2 sensor with PDAF and LED flash for the main cameras while the selfie camera sports a 5MP f/2.2 sensor with AI Face Beauty and screen flash.
|
The OPPO A3s has a dual rear camera setup |
The OPPO A3s has a dual rear camera setup 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 with AF and LED flash. For selfies, it has an 8MP f/2.2 sensor with AI Beauty 2.0.
In paper, the OPPO A3s wins. It has a dual camera setup with a 2MP f/2.4 secondary sensor that helps in taking macro shots and portrait shots with bokeh effect. It also has a bigger sensor for selfies. However, it does not mean that the Vivo Y81i is bad since Vivo has a great track record in terms of their camera technology.
Other features - Both of the phones has face unlock. Both also has WiFi, 700MHz 4G LTE, Bluetooth, and dual SIM slots.
Vivo Y81i advantages - Slightly larger screen, slimmer design
OPPO A3s advantages - Better processor, better cameras, bigger battery, more affordable price tag
Our thoughts
The Vivo Y81i is a decent looking phone with a notch on a budget, but the OPPO A3s looks way better in terms of specs. It has the speedier processor, better cameras, and bigger battery for less.
