The first Google station is expected to be deployed this February, the US-based technology leader said, promising to provide Filipinos with free and fast internet connection.

We believe that we can use technology to help uplift the country and benefit every single Filipino. Para sa bayan, para sa lahat, said Ken Lingan, Country Manager of Google Philippine.

PLDT Public Affairs Head Ramon Isberto explained that the partnership includes Google providing the WiFi platform, while PLDT’s wireless arm Smart would deliver the infrastructure and connectivity.

The stations would be powered by carrier grade connectivity, he noted.

People can use the internet for free in 30 minute segments. When you use up the 30 minutes, you register for another 30 minutes, Isberto said.

Basically, it is an unlimited FREE internet.

Isberto said the partnership would initially deploy 25 Google stations. The group’s more than 600 WiFi sites would then be used and converted as Google stations for the first half of 2019.

Aside from the 600 existing sites, PLDT and Google are also looking at launching more stations to boost the initiative.
