Can Samsung compete with Huawei's monster affordable premium phone?

Build/Design - The advantage in materials used clearly goes with the Nova 5T since it is using higher-end metal and glass materials.

While it is subject the colorways could be an advantage for the Nova since it the midsummer purple version looks absolutely stunning. But, I won't blame you if you will prefer the neat looking crush green of the A50s.

Display - Personally, I like the bigger 6.4-inch AMOLED display of the Galaxy A50s. It even has an In-Display fingerprint reader. It has vibrant and punchy colors with deep blacks.

It doesn't mean that the Nova 5T's screen is far behind though. In fact, it is actually a close match. It has wide color gamut of 96 percent NTSC.'

Some may prefer the notch of A50s or the punch-hole screen with large screen-to-body ratio Nova 5T.

Specs - The 10nm 2.3GHz 64-bit Exynos 9611 octa-core processor of the A50s is respectable, but it can't match the performance of the 7nm near flagship-grade 2.6GHz 64-bit Kirin 980 octa-core processor w/ Dual-NPU. On the GPU department, the Mali-G72 MP3 of A50s is no match to Mali-G76 MP10 w/ GPU Turbo of Nova 5T.

The RAM advantage at 8GB goes to Nova 5T as well. Both have 128GB storage, but A50s have an expandable storage option.

The battery advantage is to A50s since it has the larger 4,000mAh battery. But, the 22.5W charger of Nova 5T is faster than the 15W of Samsung.

Since Nova 5T has a more power-efficient 7nm chip, I won't be surprised if it can match the actual battery performance of A50s.

Cameras

Triple-cam vs quad-cam
Triple-cam vs quad-cam

Both are equipped with 48MP primary cameras. But Nova 5T is using a higher-end 48MP f/1.8 Sony IMX586 sensor. It also has more cameras. Nearly everything about its main camera is better than the triple-cam of Samsung on paper.

In particular, Galaxy a50s uses a 48MP f/2.0 + 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens + 5MP depth sensor w/ AF and LED flash. Nova 5T goes with 48MP f/1.8 Sony IMX586 w/ PDAF, CAF + 16MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle sensor + 2MP f/2.4 4cm macro + 2MP f/2.4 depth w/ LED flash.

For selfies, it could be a tie since both have a 32MP shooter.

Both have some sort of video stabilization.

Other features

The connectivity options of Nova 5T is ahead since it has a higher-end chipset with  better connectivity options. Samsung Galaxy A50s has a more modern In-Display fingerprint scanner.

Nova 5T has OTG, NFC, dual-band GPS, dual-band GALILEO, dual-band QZZS, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual-mic, and USB-C port.

Samsung Galaxy A50s advantages - Larger 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with In-Display fingerprint reader, expandable storage, slightly larger battery capacity
Huawei Nova 5T advantages - Superior CPU, GPU, RAM, quad-cameras setup, better connectivity options, better value for money

Our thoughts

So, can the new Samsung Galaxy A50s compete with the Huawei Nova 5T?

Apart from its AMOLED Display, expandable storage slot, slightly larger battery capacity, the answer is a NO.

Huawei Nova 5T is superior in nearly every other aspect. It is the phone with more premium metal and glass design, larger screen-to-body ratio, much faster 7nm flagship-grade processor, larger 8GB RAM, and quad-camera system for the same price!
