As a part of its goal in covering the entire nation with fast internet connectivity, Smart Communications Inc. has finally fired up 4G LTE in the Southern Luzon islands.

The areas who will experience the LTE upgrade the island provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate. Smart has also activated LTE sites  Masbate towns of Cataingan, Mobo, and Palanas, to name a few.

Aside from the above-mentioned areas, Smart has also recently added LTE sites in Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Romblon, Mindoro Occidental, and Camarines Norte.

As of writing, the company's total fiber infrastructure spanning over 283,000 kilometers.

From 2018's 14,300, Smart now has over 19,000 LTE base stations nationwide!

These expansion efforts are part of our commitment to improve customer experience and provide world-class connectivity to more areas in the country, including remote islands like Masbate and Catanduanes, said Mario G. Tamayo, PLDT-Smart senior vice president for Network Planning and Engineering.

With LTE and LTE compatible handsets in the area will finally enjoy faster internet speeds that they can use for doing research, streaming videos on YouTube and more, play online games like Mobile Legends, stay connected on Facebook or Instagram, and access other online services like mobile banking.

To fully enjoy the improved network, Smart also encourages its customers to upgrade to an LTE-capable smartphone with an LTE SIM.

All Smart, TNT and Sun subscribers can check if their SIMs are LTE-ready by texting SIMCHECK to 5832 for free.

Smart, TNT and Sun customers can also easily upgrade to an LTE SIM without changing their existing number by going to a nearby Smart Store or through an LTE-Ready Self-Service Upgrade SIM, which is available for P10 at Smart loading partners nationwide, with free 1GB data valid for three days upon upgrading.

Just recently, Smart also upgraded 71 percent of its LTE sites to LTE-A. Users with LTE-A devices can even enjoy greater speeds of over 100 Mbps.

Smart users can also check if their location is LTE ready by accessing smart.com.ph/LTE.
