OPPO M1 mobile processor is coming

OPPO's in-house mobile SoC (System on a Chip) will be called OPPO M1. LetsGoDigital reported that OPPO has hired engineered from Spreadtrum (UNISOC) and MediaTek to work on the M1.

The trademark description of OPPO M1 reads Chips [integrated circuits]; Semiconductor chips; Computer chips; Multiprocessor chips; Electronic chips for the manufacture of integrated circuits; Biochips; Smartphones; Cell phones; Screens.

To date, the likes of Samsung (Exynos), Huawei (Kirin), and Apple have their own chips. Xiaomi also has its own Surge line, but they aren't actively pushing it like the above-mentioned companies.

If OPPO is successful, this could be the company's way to not heavily rely on other chipmakers and customize/optimize the processor according to its liking.

It is still unknown if OPPO will make this chip available outside of OPPO phones like Samsung.

There are speculations that the Chinese mobile phone giant might release the SoC next year at MWC 2020 in Barcelona, Spain.
