Facebook has felt the demand for real-time video lately. Over 700 million accounts across WhatsApp and Messenger participate in calls every day. Lately, Messenger and WhatsApp video calls have more than doubled while Facebook Live and Instagram Live have seen a significant increase in March 2020.

To meet the demand, Facebook is introducing Messenger Rooms where Facebook users can create a room on Facebook or Messenger and choose who to invite for video call. Rooms will be able to host up to 50 people with no call time limit.

If a user's Facebook friends or communities create rooms that are accessible by the user, the user can drop-into or out of an on-going video call at any time with a PC or a mobile phone.

With the Messenger app, you can add AR effects, mood lighting, and immersive 360 backgrounds during the video call.

Messenger Rooms is now rolling out in select countries this week and will expand to other countries in the near future.
