PLDT, Smart beat rival Globe Telecom

According to its report cited by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Ookla's nationwide speed tests showed that PLDT and Smart delivered faster upload and download speeds for both fixed and mobile internet service compared to Globe Telecom.

As of October, PLDT's average download speeds were at 32.28 megabits per second (Mbps) nationwide, while Smart subscribers were experiencing average download speeds at 21.63 Mbps.

PLDT Chief Revenue Officer and Smart Communications President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio said this was the result of the Pangilinan-led group's continuous network investment, stressing the pandemic did not stop them from deploying more infrastructure across the country.

We continue to invest, and our priority is to have a good customer experience, our North Star. We have ramped up our rollout since the lockdown, and we thank the government for all the help they have extended to us to make it easy for us to build our network, Panlilio said.

Smart has now over 10,000 sites; more than 58,000 base stations; and 5G sites as it ramps up the rollout of its 5G commercial services. PLDT also claimed it holds the bulk of the sector's total fiber rollout this year.
