If it launches soon, it will be the first-ever rollable smartphone in the world. This comes after the foldable display craze which Samsung saw success last year. It was showcased via a 5-second teaser during LG's CES presentation.

LG spokesman Ken Hong stated that since the rollable smartphone was unveiled during CES 2021, he expects it to be launched this year as well. LG is working with the Chinese technology company BOE Technology Group. The rollable display is said to be made out of flexible organing LED technology.

In the past, BOE worked and supplied OLED screens to Huawei smartphones and for Apple iPhones screen repairs and replacement late in 2020. This could be the push LG's mobile arm needs as it incurred around USD 135 million in operations loss in Q3 2020.
