AMD Ryzen 5000 series: AMD's most powerful yet?

Most of the AMD Ryzen 5000 series is based on the 7nm Zen 3 architecture. It follows the steps of the previous generation of AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs with two variants. The H-series will cater to full-fledged laptops for gaming and content creation while the U-series are designed for ultra-slim portable notebooks.

As expected, it will have four tiers as well with Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 9 models. The H-series will also add an HX-suffix to the existing H and HS variants as well.

For the U-series, the flagship CPU will be the Ryzen 7 5800U with 8 cores and 16 threads. It will have a base clock of 1.9GHz and a boost clock of 4.4GHz. The Ryzen 7 5800U already outperformed team Blue's Intel Core i7-1165G7 on benchmarks using PCMark 10, MS Excel, and Microsoft Edge. AMD also boasted that the 5800U's power efficiency can deliver up to 17.5 hours of typical usage and 21 hours of movie playback.

For the H-series, the Ryzen 9 5980HS headlines the roster. It also has 8 cores with 16 threads but has a higher base clock of 3.0GHz and boost clocks of 4.8GHz. It will be in the heart of the ASUS Zephyrus G14 2020. AMD also touted the 5980HS to be more powerful than Intel Core i9-10980HK according to its Cinebench R20 benchmarks. The 5980HS scored 601 on single-thread performance and 4349 on multi-thread performance compared to Intel's 514 and 3892 respectively.

There's also a new AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with 8 cores and 16 threads. It also has a 3.3GHz base clock and a 4.8GHz boost clock. It also has a 45W+ TDP. It is touted by AMD as the chip to power "2021's best gaming notebooks".
