Apple stands with the members of the LGBTQ+ community in their cause
The Cupertino giant first introduced the Apple Watch Pride Edition five years ago to signify Apple's support to the members of the LGBTQ+ community. This year, the new Apple Watch Pride edition and dynamic watch face boast a wider set of colors.
The design got its inspiration from numerous Pride flags which symbolize the diversity of the said minority group. Apple's CEO Tim Cook further explained,
Even before the events at the Stonewall Inn brought the LGBTQ+ movement to new prominence, Black, Brown, and transgender activists were key leaders in the march toward equality. On many fronts, Apple supports the ongoing and unfinished work of equality for diverse and intersectional communities, and we want to provide every opportunity to celebrate and honor this history during Pride season.
Rainbow colors from Pride flags are weaved together in the Pride Edition Braided Solo Loop.
Black and brown represent Black, Latinx, and those who are suffering or who suffered from HIV. Meanwhile light blue, pink, and white are the colors for transgender and non-binary individuals.
The band is made of stretchable recycled yarn interwoven with silicon threads which are said to be designed for ultra-comfort. To get the best fit, customers there are 12 available lengths to choose from.
According to Apple, the design of the Watch Face symbolizes the strength and mutual support of the LGBTQ+ movement. With the digital crown feature, the watch face scrolls and animates with a raise of the wrist. The company also equips it with a new App Clip functionality for the first time.
