Full Leica experience on a phone?

In Japan, Leica has just announced the LEITZ PHONE 1 as a SoftBank exclusive. From the press renders, it features signature Leica design elements like a signature red circle with the Leical logo and sharp corners. The body measures 74 x 162 x 9.5mm and weighs only 212 grams and is IP68 water and dust resistance rated.


Inside the new smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC, 12GB RAM, 256GB ROM, and 5000mAh battery with USB-C PD. In front, you will see a 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED display with 2730 x 1260 resolution and an adaptive 240Hz refresh rate. 

The key feature is the rear main camera with a 20MP f/1.9 1-inch sensor while in front is a 12.6MP selfie camera.

Other features include Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi, Face Unlock, and Fingerprint scanner. Under the hood is Android 11 with 

After looking at the specs and the outward appearance, the phone is surprisingly similar to the Sharp Aquos R6 that was also launched in Japan last May 2021.

Japan price with direct to PHP conversion (no duties and taxes yet):

Leica LEITZ PHONE 1 12GB/256GB - JPY 187,920 (around PHP 82.3K)

The new phone will be available for pre-orders in Japan thru SoftBank on June 18, 2021, and will be available for purchase in late July.

There is no word yet whether the smartphone will be available outside the Japanese market.
