Pasig City boosts healthcare system

Led by Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, the local executive said the city government invested in the technology as "health is our priority."

Sotto said that Pasig City has been exploring and embracing new innovations to boost its healthcare system.

Alam natin na kapag nagkulang tayo sa serbisyong pangkalusugan, dadami din 'yung pamilyang mahihirapan, mababaon sa utang. It will be a cycle, Sotto told ABS-CBN News.

Pasig City is initially deploying eight computers wired into the system, and will eventually add 96 more laptops in 12 health centers for the first phase of the program, said its health officer Dr. Joseph Panaligan.

A total of 32 other health centers in Pasig will be part of the system. Panaligan said they target to cover them by end-2021.

According to Panaligan, Pasig was supposed to launch the system before the COVID-19 pandemic. But given the needs of its constituents, the city government focused more on addressing coronavirus cases.

Our health budget in 2020 was P2.2 billion and that’s still our budget for health this year even if we had lower revenues due to the pandemic, Panaligan said.
