Globe records improvement in internet speed
The telco in a statement on Friday said its internet speed jumped by over 50 percent in just one year, thanks to its continuous infrastructure development.
Citing data from Ookla's Speedtest Intelligence for the third quarter, Globe mobile’s median download speed across all technologies zoomed by 60 percent compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, Globe mobile’s median upload speed also soared by 51 percent.
We are glad our aggressive and sustained network builds and upgrades continue to bear fruit as shown by enhanced overall customer data experience, said Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president of Network Technical Group.
For 2021 alone, Globe committed to spending a whopping PHP 76 billion to hit its goal of delivering first-world internet to its subscribers. Last year, the group spent PHP 60.3 billion despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Its multibillion-peso investment allowed the group to install one million fiber-to-the-home lines as of end-September, construct 641 new cell towers and upgrade 8,175 sites to 4G LTE as of end-June.
The firm has also over 1,800 5G locations in the country covering National Capital Region, Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo, Boracay, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and General Santos.
