DITO marks first year of commercial operations

Telco players may expect a "head to head" battle in the market once DITO hits the target, its top executive said.

This optimism came as the third telco player marked its first year of commercial operations on March 8.

Currently, the group's mobile services can now be accessed in more than 500 cities and municipalities. Its subscriber base has also increased to over 6 million active users, DITO Chief Executive Officer Dennis Uy said.

We are in more than 500 cities and municipalities and soon will cover 70 percent of the population in just a few more months – finally going head-to-head against our two competitors. The future is bright and we will not fail you. That is our commitment... We are here to offer Filipinos the full experience - the service, the value, and above all the speed we all deserve, Uy said.

DITO Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo Santiago said the company has already deployed more than 4,000 towers. For this year, the company is allotting PHP 50 billion to ramp up its network rollout.

Its chief administrative officer Adel Tamano also claimed DITO helped in improving the country's internet state.

That's what happens when you bring competition to the market. Things get better. We came here to be competitive. We also came here to build this nation, Tamano said.
