To recap, the freshly-released smartphone features a 6.56-inch HD+ IPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate support.

Under the hood, the device has a Snapdragon 680 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB memory. It also packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

The mid-ranger sports a dual-camera setup on the back with a 13MP main camera and a 2MP portrait sensor. For selfies, it is equipped with an 8MP snapper.

It runs Android 11-based ColorOS 11.1 out of the box. This is priced at PHP 11,999.

On an initial look, here's what we've found on the OPPO A76.

Unboxing/Accessories

The minimalist box in the blue and black color scheme

The unit arrives in the usual OPPO box in powder blue color. It has the product render in front and some details at the bottom.

Inside, there's the unit, a 33W power brick, USB-A to USB-C charging cable, silicone case, SIM ejector tool, and paper manuals. The device itself has a pre-installed screen protector.

The package does not include a pair of 3.5mm earphones but the device has a slot for it.

Build Quality/Design

OPPO A26 in Glowing Black

The A76 sports a plastic backplate, glass display, and a metal camera hump. Although the back is made of polycarbonate material, it feels premium and solid.

Upon the first hold, we noticed that the phone is pretty thin and lightweight. It's easy to slip in your jeans pocket. The size is also just right, we can even use it with only one hand.

At the back, the phone curves which makes it easy to hold and the matte texture somehow increases the grip factor. But note that the texture is not boring at all as you can see, the back finish subtly changes in color and sparkles.

Matte texture with a twist!

We can say that the Glow Design from OPPO hits two birds in one stone. The unique finish makes the back panel durable and resistant to fingerprint smudges and dirt. At the same time, it feels so smooth and looks sophisticated.

We received the unit in Glowing Black and even after days of using it as a daily driver, we rarely needed to wipe the back panel. We think that the silicone case is useful only for protecting the device against bumps and water splashes.

The A76 is also available in Glowing Blue which is also a pretty color and might be a popular choice among female users.

The front is a glass panel with a pre-installed screen protector. Around the phone are slim top and side bezels and a slightly thicker chin.

Punch-hole screen, but only HD+ resolution

The device also features a 6.56-inch HD display with 1612 x 720 resolution at 269 ppi. The 89.9 percent screen-to-body ratio for this price point is not bad either.

The display also comes with a 90Hz refresh rate which is ideal for smooth transitions and a 180Hz touch sampling rate that might please heavy gamers.

On top, there's not much going on except a microphone. Meanwhile, the bottom houses another microphone, a speaker grille, and a USB-C port for charging.

As mentioned, it also has a 3.5mm audio jack that we appreciate since not everyone prefers wireless earphones over wired ones.

Note that the A76 is a dual-SIM phone so the tray can either carry two nano-SIMs or one nano-SIM and a microSD card.

The device measures 164.4 x 75.7 x 8.39 mm and weighs 189 grams.

At the back are is the 13MP f/2.2 w/ AF main camera, 2MP f/2.4 bokeh sensor with IR lens, and a LED flash. On the punch hole, you can see the front-facing 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera.

For the shooting modes, this one is packed with basic shooting modes such as portrait, panorama, night, and pro. We have yet to try how these cameras will perform in different scenarios.

We have yet to try its cameras, so stay tuned.

As of the moment

A punch-hole cut-out design
A punch-hole cut-out design

The mid-range segment is absolutely stacked for choices this year. So, the OPPO A76 facing steep competition. Nevertheless, the device definitely looks visually stunning and it's mostly good on paper.

It also comes with a 6nm chip, a large 5,000mAh battery, and fast-charging support that will likely result in a good battery and charging experience.

Its use of HD+ resolution only is the MAJOR caveat we are seeing though. All phones priced above PHP 10K should at least use a 1080p panel.

But of course, we must properly test them out before drawing any conclusion.

Hopefully, it performs better in real life to justify the price tag. We'll be having an in-depth experience with the A76 to see its overall performance.

Stay tuned for the full review coming out soon.
