The removal of call recording apps on the Google Play Store started back in Android 10 when the company removed call recording as a default feature of the OS. Starting May 11, Google is introducing new Google Play Store policies that ban third-party apps from capturing the call audio stream using the Accessibility API.

Because call recording rules vary widely throughout the world, those adjustments are geared toward increased privacy and security. The change will not affect the system or pre-installed apps that currently have the authorization to use the Accessibility API. That means that manufacturer dialers pre-installed in devices with default recording options will be exempted.
