WH-1000XM5 is now official!

WH-1000XM4 upgrade!

This is the follow-up to the well-received WH-1000XM4 last 2020 which now comes with a new design, improved noise cancellation, more microphones, and other upgrades.

In particular, the Sony WH-1000XM5 highlights a sleeker look with a stepless slider and microphones around the perimeter of the earcups. It is also using a new type of lighter synthetic leather on the headband.

Sony promises an all-day comfort with a noise-less design as it has a seamless swivel and hanger, silent joints, and less pressure on the ears.

Inside, it is using a "specially designed" 30mm driver unit with lighter carbon fiber composite materials and high rigidity dome to improve sound clarity, especially in the high-frequency range.

This is smaller than the 40mm driver of its predecessor, but Sony said that it uses a lead-free solder containing gold for excellent conductivity as well as a Find Sound Resistor for even power distribution and optimized circuitry for an improved signal-to-noise ratio to ensure clear and consistent sound.

For clearer and noise-free calls, Sony equipped the device with four beamforming microphones with the Precise voice Pickup Technology and advanced auto signal processing tech.

It is also using the Integrated Processor V1 for improved noise-canceling and the Sony HD Noise Canceling Processor QN1 to provide an "incomparable" noise-canceling technology.

The 4x microphones on each side help in achieving a more accurate Ambient sound and an Auto NC Optimizer to ensure that noise canceling is automatically optimized based on the wearing conditions and external environmental factors always.

The device also has both Hi-Res Audio for wired and wireless certification and DSEE Extreme real-time upscaling technology.

Of course, the headphones support LDAC with a maximum transfer rate of 990 kbps which is more than 3x higher than the 256 kbps of Apple's AAC codec.

It also has the Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for easy pairing.

This also has the Adaptive Sound Control, Speak-to-Chat, Quick Access with Spotify Tap, voice commands via Google or Alexa, Multipoint connection, and the Headphones Connect app support.

For battery, the device promises up to 30 hours on a single charge with ANC or up to 40 hours of battery life without ANC. Sony also claims that a quick 3 minutes of charge via an optional USB-PD-compatible AC adapter will be equal to 3 hours of usage.

Lastly, the device will come with no plastic packaging for sustainability which could be better for the environment.
