To recall, the series was the "biggest-ever series at launch" for the company. Allegedly, it is the first-ever Korean series to reach No. 1 in the United States. It garnered a total of 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the 28 days following its debut.

The director of the show also noted that the show took only 12 days to achieve peak popularity on the platform.

"Squid Game" is a fictional drama from South Korea that revolves around contestants desperately needing money. To win loads of cash prizes, they must play children's games in which their lives are at stake.

The main protagonist, Seong Gi-hun, is a divorced gambler who entered the contest for big money. Hwang also revealed that they will add new characters and story developments in the second season.

He wrote that "the man in the suit with ddakji might be back," as he refers to the mysterious salesman who recruits desperate players to the Squid Game. The letter also said that the show will unveil Cheol-su as the "boyfriend" of the show's famous animatronic doll, Young-hee.

Executive Producer Kim Ji-Yeon added,

But there's a lot of pressure on making [Season 2] even better. I know that a lot of the different fans and audiences have enjoyed the series very much, but really we're focusing on how to make it even more joyful for the global audience.

Netflix also announced the second season of the hit Korean zombie horror series All Of Us Are Dead during its 2022 Geeked Week virtual event. The platform released this show in January 2022. According to the source, it bagged the top spot in Netflix's daily Top 10 list within the same week.

The series is based on the popular Korean webtoon Now at Our School by Joo Dong-Geun. The show focused on the adventures and life of some students from Hyosan High School who were trapped at the epicenter of a zombie apocalypse after an experiment gone wrong.

Note that Netflix hasn't revealed the exact date of release of these shows yet, so we'll have to wait for further announcements.
